Another thing that I forgot is this. You can always argue about if the hype around super realistic fly tying has died out (at least here in Europe) because of the fact that there are artists/fly tier that mould and sculpt their “flies” and that it makes the whole niche of super realistic fly tying not interesting any more because people regard it as not being fly tying which is unfair to the people who actually still do their flies with pure fly tying, no glue, epoxy, moulding or sculpting. Hmm, I wonder how that came out in English, oh well I think you understand.
Or it is just too far from the fishing? Because let’s face it, most (all?) people interested in fly tying are fly fishermen who are interested in seeing fly tying that they themselves can learn and use and I think that most fly fisherman how impressed they might be don’t see the connection to their fishing in Super realistic fly tying (sorry).
I don’t know really, but personally I think that Super realistic fly tying holds a place among other styles of fly tying, just like Classic salmon flies who also aren’t meant to be fished with. I have several framed super realistic flies on my wall and keep swapping (or even buying) some stunning flies now and then and I think that if you love fly fishing there are no excuse not to have a super realistic fly framed on the wall!
